چکیده

The inhibitory effects of radiation and chemicals on the cellular division proceses in yeast and Escherichia coli in the logarithmic phases of growth have been studied in this laboratory. An investigation of phosphorus metabolism was undertaken as part of a program to correlate metabolic changes accompanying the inhibition of cellular division. In order to devise satisfactory experimental conditions for determining the effects of division-inhibitors on the phosphorus compounds in rapidly-dividing yeast cells, it became necessary to know the phosphorus spectrum of normal growing cultures. However, the paucity of data on the phosphorus metabolism of rapidly-dividing yeast cells at various stages of growth made it imperative that this study be made since it is not unlikely that the phosphorus content(s) of a particular fraction(s) might vary during the logarithmic growth cycle. This implies that, although the cells tain a steady rate of growth and multiplication during the log phase, the concentrations of intermediary metabolites of other components of the cell need not be in steady state. This paper describes a method for the fractionation and pbosphorus analysis of normal yeast in various stages of growth and division.

Effect of cell division inhibition on the phosphorus metabolism of growing cultures of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Radiation and certain organic chemicals, under appropriate experimental conditions, may selectively inhibit cell division but not growth of cultures of Saccharomyces cerevisiae which are in the logarithmic stages of both growth and division (Lea et al., 1937; Spoerl et al., 1954; Loveless et al., 1954). The inhibition of cell division (multiplication) without a concommitant inhibition of growth...

In this study, twenty-five whey samples collected from dairy industries in the city of Isfahan. The sampleswere cultured on malt extract broth (MEB) and yeast extract glucose chloramphenicol agar (YGCA) media.Eleven yeast strains (designated M1 to M11) were isolated from the culture. The strains were identified bytheir morphological and physiological properties. Betagalactosid...

Characteristics of Saccharomyces cerevisiae isolated from fruits and humus: Their suitability for bread making

The objectives of this study were to clarify whether the wild yeast isolated from fruits and humus is suitable forbread making. Using colony PCR, assimilation of carbohydrate and 18S rRNA sequencing, seven strains fromamong 70 samples were identified as Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The ethanol and CO2 production by the 10-2 wild yeast strain were highest among the strains. The pH and utilized gluc...
